Indian Premier League 2009
It all seems like a dream. Barely seven weeks back, the IPL appeared to be doomed with the Indian government's reluctance to provide security cover for the tournament in view of the general elections. But then, like it or not, you got to hand it to Lalit Modi for pulling it off and making a success out of it as an entertainment package if not just a domestic cricket tournament. The off-shoot of it all is that by conducting the IPL in South Africa at the drop of a hat as it were, Modi has unwittingly opened the doors to more lucrative prospects of the tournament going global in the immediate future. It was surprising when he said that IPL could well be held twice a year, in India and at a foreign locale. Obviously, the South African "safari" was far more successful than expected.
